Description

The Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. School is a therapeutic day school in Tinley Park, Illinois. We are Illinois State Board of Education certified and serve intellectually and developmentally delayed students ages three until twenty-one. Our curriculum is provided twelve months a year, with one week breaks between the trimesters.

The Culinary Arts Training Program Instructor is responsible for the effective and efficient daily operations support of the Culinary Arts Training Program Classroom Instruction.

Shift: 1st - 8:00 AM - 3:15 PM


Pay Rate: $21.90


Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the daily operations of the Culinary Arts Training Program Classroom Instruction 
  • Provides individual and group instruction to individuals with disabilities that are enrolled in the Training and School Program 
  • Coordinates on-the-job experiences to reinforce skills that are learned in the classroom 
  • Assists with the coordination and/or preparation of student lunches  
  • Assures that student lunches fall within the school dietary guidelines and individual student dietary needs 
  • Assists with developing a curriculum for the kitchen and bakery training programs 
  • Annually reviews the curriculum with the Supervisor of Culinary Arts Training Program, the Director of Education and the Employment Services Manager and assists with making changes as needed 
  • Assists with conducting admissions reviews of all of the training program’s referrals, and assists with processing all admissions to the training program 
  • Directly monitors the classroom aide assigned to a Culinary Class in times of full enrollment or when behavior challenges exhibited by student’s warrant para professional support. 
  • Assists with all student/participant training activities including ServSafe Certification 
  • Provides on-the-job-training to the student/participants assigned to the kitchen 
  • Completes all student/participant related documentation for workers assigned to the kitchen and maintains student records 
  • Actively participates in the development and management of budgets in areas of responsibility 
  • Provides substitute coverage for the Culinary Arts Training Supervisor or kitchen staff members as needed 
  • Assists with developing special events schedules as related to student/participants training 
  • Assists with the coordination, preparation and delivery of food for special events 
  • Actively participates in the marketing of the Culinary Arts Training Program 
  • Maintains a sanitation license in good standing 


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, education or culinary arts or licensing from an accredited Culinary Program, experience in retail food service or equivalent required
  • Experience with the use of kitchen equipment and safety
  • Knowledge of lesson planning and classroom activities 
  • Knowledge of culinary products for both baking and cooking
  • Average computer skills including MS Office and internet software
  • Ability to visually examine products for quality and freshness
  • Must possess a valid Illinois driver's license meeting DCFS approval
  • Must possess a valid Illinois food sanitation license, and Certified Food Safety Manager
