Description

At St. Coletta's, our mission is to serve children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities so they can achieve their greatest potential. 

St. Coletta’s of Illinois is seeking a motivated professional to plan, direct, and implement recreation-based activities and programs for adults diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This position is responsible for providing enriching, coordinated activities and programs for up to 200 adults.

Shift: 1st 


Primary Responsibilities:
 

  • The Recreational Therapist is responsible for developing and implementing recreation programs that are consistent with participants needs, abilities, and interests
  • Activities will be offered on a one on one, small group and large group basis. Examples of activities include: social activities, art, crafts, music, exercise, life-skills development, and educational programming
  • Initiate and plan weekly and monthly calendar of activities and events for participants as well as communicating activities, gathering, and distributing supplies to the appropriate staff, as needed
  • Assess individual and group needs to ensure all activities are beneficial
  • Review and report on activities success and key performance indicators
  • Plan daily activities for participants to build life-skills
  • Create and conduct virtual programs and activities, as necessary
  • Plan and coordinate community engagement activities within the community and with partner organizations
  • Assists with transporting and or escorting participants to, from, and within the coordinated activities and on external trips
  • Maintain activity center and supplies at Tinley Park Administrative Building
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
 

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree in Recreational Therapy or similar field
  • Preferred: Master's Degree in Recreational Therapy or similar field 
  • Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to be self-directed
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Pass a criminal background check and physical/drug test
  • Pass a MVR background check 
  • Valid driver's license
