Special Education Teacher Summary Description Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy/St. Coletta's of Illinois have a low student/teacher ratio, in a self-contained campus with exceptional and credentialed teachers, aides, and medical oversight where needed has a robust curriculum focused on student development toward independence, productivity and societal participation in a most normal and least restrictive environment.
We are seeking a full-time Special Education teacher to join the Kennedy School team.
This individual will be responsible for the creation, implementation, and supervision of a specialized program aligned with the New Illinois Learning Standards (NILS) and based on the individual needs of students identified with a disability under IDEA.
Responsibilities
- Develops lesson plans and activities aligned with IEP goals and objectives related to New Illinois Learning Standards (NILS).
- Seeks clarification from supervisory staff in the establishment of the behavior intervention plans, classroom environment, goal development, goal-setting strategies, and lesson planning for students.
- Responsible on a weekly basis to submit lesson plans to the Director of Education/Principal.
- Responsible for the implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans, including data collection.
- Collaborates with classroom team, support staff, and outside services on goal development, goal-implementation strategies and lesson planning.
- Is directly responsible for the supervision and evaluation of the 1:1 Individual Aide, including implementation of the lesson plans, group activities, behavior intervention plans, and IEP goals.
- Is directly responsible for the supervision and evaluation of the 1:1 Individual Aide consistently maintaining data collection regarding IEP goals and behavior intervention plans.
- Maintains a learning environment that meets the individual needs of students.
- Prepares appropriate documentation for and participates in IEP meetings, domain meetings, evaluation meetings, and annual reviews.
- Attends professional development in-services and participates in quarterly teacher meetings, classroom team meetings, and collaboration meetings.
- Maintains contact with parents in an effort to address parental concerns, to inform about school activities, and to address any behavior or academic needs and progress.
- Schedules structured activities to maintain student and staff engagement throughout the entire school day.
- Is responsible for the care, safety, security, and welfare of all students assigned to his/her classroom.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education.
- LBS1 certification.
- Experience teaching in a special education environment preferred.
- At least three references that indicate excellence in teaching and the ability to teach in a highly structured environment, one of which must be from the present employer or academic advisor.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
